The Benedictine monastery of Vilar of Frades have been founded in 566 by the Bishop S. Martinho of Dume. From the first Benedictine monastery founded in the XI century only remain meager Romanesque elements. In 1425 is founded and based here a congregation of secular canons (Loios). The set was refurbished between the XVI and XIX centuries, being noted in the body of the church, notable domes (ribbed) Manuelin, and in the same style, the beautiful main portal. The Baroque period is the altarpiece of the church and valuable tiles of the XVIII century.
